Battery Smart is building India’s largest battery swapping network for electric two and three wheelers. Our smart stations, batteries, and IoT-enabled infrastructure generate mission-critical data that powers billing, tracking, fleet management, analytics, and AI systems. Ensuring device reliability and data correctness across thousands of deployed hardware units is central to our success. Role Overview
We are looking for a highly driven Program Manager to operate at the intersection of embedded firmware, IoT systems, hardware engineering, and data platforms. This role will own end-to-end program management across:
•BMS firmware
•Battery IoT firmware
•Smart station firmware
•Device telemetry pipelines
•OTA update processes
•Security and tracking instrumentation
This role will coordinate internal engineering teams and external hardware and firmware vendors to ensure seamless execution across software, hardware, and backend systems.
Key Responsibilities
1. Embedded Firmware Program Ownership
•Own roadmap planning and execution across BMS, IoT, and smart station firmware.
•Align firmware releases with backend, analytics, data, and product requirements.
•Drive cross-functional coordination between hardware, embedded, backend, platform, and data teams.
•Track firmware quality, version stability, adoption, and field performance across the deployed fleet.
2. Device Data Integrity & Telemetry Reliability
•Define and enforce data correctness and reliability standards for all device-originated data.
•Partner with Data, Platform Engineering, and BI teams to validate telemetry pipelines end-to-end.
•Build detection and prevention mechanisms for:
oIncorrect or noisy sensor readings
oFirmware-level miscalculations
oDevice clock drift and timestamp issues
oPacket loss, duplication, and data inconsistencies
•Own root-cause analysis for data anomalies originating from firmware or hardware.
3. OTA & Firmware Update Management
•Design, institutionalize, and scale robust OTA update processes.
•Own firmware rollout strategies across thousands of devices, including:
oPhased rollouts
oRollback mechanisms
oVersion tracking and compliance
•Build dashboards to track update success rates, failures, and device health.
•Ensure OTA updates cause minimal operational disruption to the field.
4. External Stakeholder & Vendor Coordination
•Act as the single program owner across:
oFirmware vendors
oHardware OEMs
oIoT module suppliers
•Translate product, platform, and data requirements into clear technical specifications.
•Drive accountability for delivery timelines, firmware quality, testing rigor, and certification readiness.
•Validate vendor deliverables from a system-level integration perspective.
5. Security & Tracking Enhancements
•Partner with Security and Platform teams to:
oIntroducing new telemetry for fraud prevention
oStrengthen tamper detection mechanisms
oImprove battery and station tracking accuracy
•Ensure adherence to encryption, authentication, and device identity standards.
•Own execution of security-related firmware instrumentation.
6. Process, Governance & Documentation
•Build structured governance around:
oFirmware release management
oVersion control across field devices
oChange management for hardware-software integrations
•Define SLAs for:
oDevice uptime
oTelemetry reliability
oOTA success rates
•Establish documentation standards for firmware behavior, integrations, and operational playbooks.
Key KPIs
•Data accuracy and consistency across the deployed hardware fleet
•OTA update success rate and rollout stability
•Firmware version compliance across active devices
•Reduction in device-originated data incidents
•Time to diagnose and resolve firmware-related production issues
•Successful rollout of new security and tracking data points
Key Qualifications & Skills
•4–8 years in Program Management, Technical Program Management, or Systems Engineering.
•Hands-on exposure to:
•Embedded systems
•IoT platforms
•Firmware-driven hardware products
•Experience in EV, automotive, industrial IoT, robotics, or similar domains preferred.
•Strong familiarity with OTA mechanisms and device fleet management.
Technical Understanding
•Solid understanding of:
•Embedded firmware lifecycle
•BMS or similar real-time systems
•Device telemetry and communication protocols (MQTT, HTTP, CAN, BLE, etc.)
•Firmware versioning and rollout strategies
•Ability to read technical specs and challenge firmware architecture decisions.
•Working knowledge of IoT security fundamentals.
Skills & Attributes
•Strong cross-functional and vendor program management skills
•High ownership and accountability mindset
•Structured problem-solving with data-driven decision making
•Comfortable operating in fast-paced, high-ambiguity environments
